In 1977 BC established the limit of 50 mg% as the provincial limit on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) for drivers. When tested with an approved screening device drivers with a BAC over this limit received a 24 hour roadside prohibition. Relatively recently, this prohibition also included a 24 hour vehicle impoundment to go along with the prohibition.
I hear a lot of people talk about lane position as if there are rules set in stone and there is only one dominant lane position. The standard agreement is that the left third of the lane is Position 1, the center of the lane is Position 2, and the right third of the lane is Position 3.
The use of vehicle impoundment as part of an array of penalties to discourage improper driving behaviour will expand significantly when amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act become law on September 20, 2010. In every case the cost of the impoundment will be the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle. If the owner was not the driver at the time, they may recover costs from the driver as a debt in any court of competent jurisdiction.
I am curious how is it that it is possible for an officer to issue a ticket without actually witnessing the alleged offense, and only going by a couple of witness calls that likely do not have the plate number of the alleged offender and in a location that is not specific?
Question: Over a year ago, my husband came to pick me up after work a little after 11 pm. We live in a town of 20,000 people and it was a Wednesday night, traffic is not very busy at the worst of times. He pulled into the left turn lane, saw nobody coming in from any direction and then instead of coming to a complete stop, slowed almost to a stop and then kept going.
Question: I am interested in speed measurement because I was recently issued a speeding ticket with a fine amount of $138. I was driving westward on the left lane behind a pickup truck. I was looking for a street sign, so I slowed down and changed lanes to the right so that vehicles behind me could pass.
Something must have struck a nerve lately as I have received a number of requests to deal with cyclists passing other traffic on the right hand side. One near miss on a right turn even had the cyclist shaking their fist and cursing the driver.
Question: My husband got pulled over for speeding. We recently sold our old car and transferred the insurance to the new car. Instead of putting 2001 silver Chrysler PT Cruiser (new car, which is what he was driving), the officer put 1987 purple Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera (old car) on the ticket.
