LAW - ZEV Act & Regulation

NZEV SignOur provincial government has brought the majority of the Zero-Emission Vehicles Act into force effective on July 30, 2020. The aim of the act is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by regulating the sale of zero-emission vehicles. Starting in 2025, at least 10% of new light duty vehicles sold in BC must be zero emission.

In 2030 that target will increase to 30% and by 2040 all light duty vehicles sold must be zero emission.

A light duty vehicle is considered to be a motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,856 kg or less.
