Question: I have my Alberta learner driver's license and have had it for 9 years now. I moved back to BC a couple months ago and I was wondering will I have to apply for my learners license before I can take the drivers test or will P be fine just how I am?
If I do have to apply for my BC learners am I going to have to have it for the designated time before i can take the test or would i just be better off going back to Alberta to take the test?
If "a couple of months" is more than 90 days you already require a BC driver's licence in order to drive legally here.
ICBC & Learner Licences
ICBC had this to say when I inquired:
Learner licences are not transferable or renewable. You will be required to do our knowledge test as some of the rules and regulations are different but you will be accredited for your learner time from Alberta.
If you have more than twelve months of learner experience, you will be able to go for your road test as soon as you are ready. The waiting period will be waived.
Please attend one of our driver licensing offices and ensure you bring the required identification.

Pretty sure ICBC will give credit for the time an Alberta Learner License has been held, so long as you can prove that experience; but that you'll need to qualify for, and switch to a BC Learner License if only to get into 'the system' to be able to book a driving test here (once that's done you should be eligible to take a test the same day, theoretically).
There's a very useful page on the ICBC site here.
Incidentally, if you went back to Alberta to do the test there, you would still need to switch your Alberta license to a BC one anyway once you came back to BC, so you might as well switch the Learner License over and take the test here.
