Collisions

In the early morning hours of April 25, 2015 Kendall Derkson was driving her vehicle on Highway 10 in Surrey. She struck a vehicle driven by Patrick Chan, destroying her vehicle in the process. ICBC refused to cover her loss as she was in breach of her conditions of insurance for being “incapable of proper control of the vehicle” at the time of the collision due to the influence of alcohol.

Sandra Lepitre parked her car at the curb in front of 2871 Aurora Road in North Vancouver and walked to work from there. At lunchtime, Amrinder Singh and Jaskirat Singh Sekhon, who had been working at a nearby construction site, sat on the street in front of Ms. Lepitre's car to eat. While they were there, Ms. Lepitre returned to her car intending to drive off on an errand. She struck both men.

The B.C. Coroner's Service has released a report that summarizes all accidental, traffic-related pedestrian deaths that occurred between January 1, 2012, and November 30, 2021.

This collision between a vehicle and two pedestrians takes place at the intersection of Huntingdon Road and Gladwin Road in Abbotsford. It was dark, raining heavily and occurred in an unlit rural area. Sarbjit Parmar and her two childen were crossing Huntingdon northbound in a marked crosswalk when Ms. Parmar and her son were struck by a vehicle driven by Harold Rink.

If Tenessa Nikirk could undo the moments in her life that caused this collision, I have no doubt that she would. The bad judgment (and driving) that she exhibited on December 20, 2017 in Saanich lead to a collision with 11 year old Leila Bui in a crosswalk leaving the girl with life shattering injuries that she will never recover from. Nikirk has been convicted of dangerous driving causing bodily injury.

This incident involves a collision between a cyclist, Valerie Charlton-Miner and a driver, Reginald Hedgecock at the intersection of Hollywood Road South and Highway 33 in Kelowna. Ms. Charlton-Miner was riding northbound in Hollywood Road cycle lane approaching Highway 33. From left to right at the intersection approach is a left turn lane, a through lane, a right turn lane and the cycle lane.

According to Road Safety at Work every year, on average, 19 workers are killed and 1,319 are injured and miss time from work due to motor vehicle crashes. Vehicles used for work are considered to be part of the workplace regardless of who owns the vehicle. This means that both the employer and the employee have a responsibility to be safe.

The case of Burroughs v Chiasson involves a collision between a fully marked police vehicle being operated code 3 and a family mini van in the intersection of First Avenue and Young Road in Chilliwack.

Brad Gorski is a 30 year-old resident Vancouver, B.C. who enjoys taking in the city and spending time with his family and friends. Christina Block was driving eastbound on Yarrow Central Road near No. 3 Road in Yarrow. She and her family were returning from the movies. Kevin Schmitt was driving westbound and veered into the Block's lane, causing a sideswipe collision. Ms. Block pulled over and stopped but Mr. Schmitt did not.
