The B.C. Coroner's Service has released statistics on All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) deaths in the province from 2009 to 2018. Impaired driving was involved in half of them.
Summary:
- From 2009-2018, most deaths occurred in the Interior Health Authority region (46.5%), followed by the Northern Health Authority region (26%).
- Eighty-four percent (84%) of decedents were males; 16% of whom were females.
- More than one-third of decedents (39.7%) were injured in the summer months.
- Based on data available from 2009-2017, alcohol and/or drug involvement was identified as a contributing factor in half (50.9%) the deaths.
