READING - Developing Technology Neutral Rules for Driver Distraction

NTC LogoThe Australian National Transport Commission is planning to update rules regarding the use of in vehicle technology and has asked for public input. This could be of equal importance here in British Columbia and the document outlines what we might consider.

From the Executive Summary:

In May 2018, the Transport and Infrastructure Council directed the National Transport Commission to review the Australian Road Rules that regulate driver distraction to determine whether they sufficiently address the key factors that cause driver distraction. This project seeks to ensure that the rules achieve better outcomes for road users regardless of the technology used. The project should establish whether the current rules manage the risks posed by all sources of distraction and, if required, recommend what changes should be made to the Australian Road Rules.
