Commercial drivers operating within a 160 km radius of their home base are not required to record their hours of service in a log book. However, they are still required to abide by the hours of service rules which, even with a log book, is not a simple task.
To insure that this is being done, the carrier is required to maintain the record instead of the driver. Operating Within the 160 km is an article provided by Safety Driven (Trucking Safety Council of BC) detailing the importance of the carrier maintaining proper records.
