The collision counter on this web site estimates 33 pedestrian deaths and 1374 pedestrian injury collisions in BC to July 29, 2015. I almost added to that number driving in Vancouver last weekend and the incident still has me shaking my head. I can't believe that a pedestrian could be that stupid!
ICBC has produced two new videos aimed at making sure motorcycle riders use proper safety gear to protect themselves in the event of a crash. The first two videos are on riding pants and riding gloves. Protecting your hands and legs with the right gear as opposed to work gloves and blue jeans are shown. The third compares full face and partial helmets.
I took my brother who holds a valid handicap parking pass to his eye care appointment at 550 W. Broadway, Vancouver, BC and had it displayed on my windshield - he is unable to currently drive so I offered to take him and paid over $10.00 in parking fees only to return to my vehicle to find a ticket for either $80.00 or $60 if paid within 7 days.
When the road maintenance contractors undertake work on our highways they are hard to miss. The Traffic Control Manual for Work on Roadways tells them all about setting out advance warnings to give drivers plenty of opportunity to realize that they are approaching a hazard. What is often missing is the equivalent for short term, small scale occurrences. This had added importance now that we have the slow down, move over law.
I am an international student (ESL) and have a driver's license in my country. I'm already studying in Canada for 6 months and have 6 more to go. My school is not listed in the designated schools that allow me drive during the course duration.

It looks like British Columbia's Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) program is under a cloud again. In this case Mr. Justice B.C. MacKenzie is asked to stay a driving prohibition issued under the program to Tony Van Bree on May 23, 2015. The basis for the action is that the IRP legislation challenge has made its way to the Supreme Court of Canada and a decision on its validity in law is pending.
We are going on a drive through Canada and the US in a large motorhome that only has shoulder strap seatbelts for the driver and co-pilot. All other seatbelts are lap-belts only. My 7-year-old son requires a booster seat when we are in the car, but what do we do in the RV? Front seat? Back seat with booster? Back seat without booster?
We're facing one of the more serious forest fire seasons that British Columbia has seen in recent memory. Many of these fires are caused by human activity with one of the common activities being the careless disposal of cigarette butts. The provincial government has proposed that when the careless disposal occurs from within a motor vehicle, the vehicle should be impounded for a period of time.
It appears that the Abbotsford Police Department is following the lead of other agencies such as TACVictoria with a no-punches-pulled video reminding drivers to yield to pedestrians and not drive while distracted. It could equally well be used to remind pedestrians to watch for vehicles when they use a marked crosswalk.
If I have a dashcam and capture traffic violations and reported them, is it of any use for police to prosecute? If so does it depend on the level severity? What steps or how much involvement would be required of me? eg. appear in court, just sending a video etc.
