I wonder why only salt is used ahead of snow storms. In my experience (50 years in Kelowna and lower mainland) salt get put out, snow starts, salt get diluted until no longer effective, traffic gets snarled and road crews can't move for all the stuck cars, trucks and buses.
Why wouldn't a sand/salt mix work better with the sand helping traction after the salt is no longer effective?
